Merchant of Venice Essay: Antonios Love for Bassanio -- Merchant Veni

Antonios Love for Bassanio in The Merchant of Venice Antonio feels closer to Bassanio than any other character in The Merchant of Venice. Our first clue to this is in the first scene when, in conversation with Antonio, Solanio says, Here comes Bassanio, your most noble kinsman, / Gratiano, and Lorenzo. Fare ye well / We leave you at once with better company (i. i. 57-59). Once Antonio is alone with Bassanio, the conversation becomes more intimate, and Antonio offers an indebted Bassanio My purse, my person, my extremest means (137). We find out later that Bassanio needs money to woo Portia, a noble heiress who Bassanio intends to marry. And though Antonio is not in a position to loan money at the time, he does not disappoint Bassanio N each gestate I money, nor commodityTo raise a present sum therefore, go forthTry what my credit can in Venice doThat shall be racket, veritable(a) to the uttermost,To furnish thee to Belmont, to fair Portia. (124-128) Antonio does not make these of fers to any other character in The Merchant of Venice. In fact, there is only one scene in which Antonio is present and Bassanio not in act 3 scene 3, and even then Antonio ends the scene with a plea for Bassanio Pray God, Bassanio come / To see me give way his debt, -- and then I care not (iii, iii, 35-36). Antonio expresses love for Bassanio to him several times throughout the play (You know me well, and herein spend but time / To spark advance about my love with circumstance i, i, 154 Commend me to your honourable wife / Tell her the process of Antonios end / Say how I loved you iv, i, 273-275). Some of the substances that are used grow naturally, where as other(a)s are manufactured illicitly or even legitimately in laboratories. They may be smoked, inhaled, ingested, or injected and used for social, religious, or self-medicating purposes. The substance that are abused include caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, steroids, stimulants, depressants, heroin, ANd cocaine. Substance abuse and dependence were first described as disease make for in the 1960s with the introduction of Jellineks work on alcoholism. Dependence on alcohol and other drugs is immediately accepted and is classified as a psychiatric disorder.Substance abuse ranks high among serious health problems. Since 1979 illicit drug use and alcohol consumption have declined, but the widespread use of and dependence on these substance continue. Nicotine, now classif ied by the Food and Drug Administration as an addictive substance, is linked to more deaths annually than AIDS, cancer, and other substances combined. Alcohol is also a major social problem today. Use and abuse of alcohol are a factor in contributing to injuries and death. The speak to of substance abuse is increasing in our society. Lives are lost, and loss of work productivity costs millions of dollars each year. Alcohol is a factor in 40% of all motor vehicle accidents, and alcohol and other drugs are often implicated in boating or athletic accidents. Cost include not only lives lost but also medical care, long-term services to the disabled, and increased insurance rates. Health care cost for clients use alcohol, drugs, and nicotine are estimated to be greater than $160 billion annually. It has been confirmed that there is link between violence and alcohol and other drugs. Alcohol and drugs is a factor in hooliganism on college campuses, date rape, internal assault, and domestic violence. Under the influence of alcohol and drugs, young adults are more likely to engage in unsafe sexual practices, and parents are more likely to abuse their children.Certain factors place some individuals at greater risk than others for the development of abuse and dependence. Other groups include Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Al-Anon, Nar Anon, Children of Alcoholic Parents (CAP), Smokenders, Ala Teen. These are a few of the self help groups that can be contacted in our communities to help those who are maltreater or have friends or family members who are abusers. Most of these groups are free of charge and are conducted by people who have abused and are now recovering.

Marlon Brando :: Biographies Biography

Marlon Brando was born on April 3rd 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, the third and last peasant of Dorothy Pennebaker Brando and Marlon Brando, Senior. He had two sisters Jocelyn and Frances and was descended from Irish immigrants. In 1935, his parents separated, and his mother moved with her three children to Santa Ana in Orange County, California. Two years later, in 1937, his parents were reconciled again, and the family moved to Libertyville, Illinois, sexual union of Chicago near Lake Michigan. (Bosworth, 2004)In 1940, he was sent to a military boarding school - Shattuck Military Academy in Fairbult, Minnesota, from which he was eventually expelled for insubordination. In 1943, Brando relocated to New York City to study the Stanislavsky method under Stella Adler. (Editor, 2004)Brandos, first film was Fred Zinnemanns The Men in 1950. In 1951, he played in A Streetcar Named Desire .The role he performed in that movie earned him the first of four consecutive Best Actor Academy Award no minations. He followed up with impressive, very individualistic performances as a Mexican revolutionary in Viva Zapata in 1952 and as Marc Anthony in Joseph L Mankiewiczs adaptation of Shakespeares Julius Caesar in 1953. In1956, he performed in Sayonara, for which he garnered another Oscar nomination. (Editor, 2004)In 1957, he married Anna Kashfi but unfortunately their marriage only lasted for two years. In 1962, he married Mivta but their marriage overly did not last for a long time, and they divorced in 1963.Some of his movies in 60s were, Mutiny On The Bounty in 1962, The Ugly American in 1967,and Reflections in a Golden Eye in 1967. (Editor, 2004)The Brando renaissance began with 1972s The Godfather. Against the objections of Paramount, director Francis Ford Coppola cast him to play the aging head of a maffia crime family. Brando was bril liant, delivering his best performance in well over a decade. His great performance in The Godfather won him another Academy Award. (David Thomson)Brando did not come to the fore on screen for three years, finally resurfacing in The Missouri Breaks in 1976 opposite Jack Nicholson. His next appearance, in Coppolas 1979 Vietnam epic Apocalypse Now, was largely incoherent, art object for 1980s The Formula, he appeared in only three scenes. For a decade, he did not perform in any movies.
